A downloadable game for Android

An arena fps game for android (4.4+) made by a single developer. Currently in development. I made this as an exercise and released it here so I can reference it on my portfolio.

Features:

-Singleplayer and LAN multiplayer (online matchmaking will be added once I have a server to run it on) for up to 8 players or bots.

-3 modes (deathmatch, team deathmatch and capture the flag), 6 maps and 6 unique weapons.

-Numerous options to customize your game, such as player health, armor, available weapons, movement speed, gravity and many more.

-AI players (bots) with four preset difficulty modes and a highly customizable "custom" difficulty

-Reasonably low requirements (but still not fully optimized) with adjustable graphics settings and controls

Planned features:

-Updated AI

A much more complex version that can better imitate human players and remain competitive at higher levels of play. Reworked player commands in team games with bots.

-Updated graphics

I'm not an artist. What you currently see here are the first 3D models that I have ever made and most, if not all, need to be replaced. That should make the game look better and even improve performance as current models have a relatively high performance impact, even though they look bad.

-New maps

Map design has been limited by my modelling inexperience, which has been exaggerated by the condition that maps should consist of one mesh only (to meet my performance goals). New maps will be more complex, detailed and less symmetrical (or not at all).

-New weapons, weapon pickup slots in map settings

I plan to add more weapons and remake the old ones, but leave the 5 weapons per game limit to avoid UI complications. When hosting a game you will be able to customize what weapons spawn on the map by assigning weapons to map weapon pickup slots.

-Optimize networking

Networking in working decently, but it could be improved. This is not a problem yet, as online multiplayer is not available at the moment and LAN should be able to handle the somewhat increased traffic just fine.

-Sound design

The game has no music and the free sound effects are not good enough. I should resolve this somehow, but as I have no budget and no experience with music or sound in general, so I'm forced to delay this indefinitely.

-Google Play release

When most of these planned features are done I plan to release the game on Google Play. I'm reluctant to release it now as I don't think the game is ready for a real release at all and I don't want to be associated with a half baked product. For now, itch.io is a perfect platform to get some desperately needed feedback and to easily distribute it to potential testers.

Install instructions

To install the game, download it on your Android phone (Android 4.4+).

Go to downloads, find the "Battlebeans: Arena0_3_2.apk" file and enter it.

This will start the installation process. It may be necessary to allow installation from unknown sources. This is because the game is not released on Google Play and it doesn't have Google's signature in it.

Once it is installed you can play the game.
